Schools are benchmarked with comparable schools based on several key characteristics including floor area, location, pupil numbers and type.

The following table summarises how we have benchmarked each school in your group according to the quality of their heating control. Good control means that heating is not running during periods of warmer weather.

The savings for each school are based on improving the control over their heating to match those of an Exemplar school with similar characteristics.

Percentage of annual heating used in warm weather

What percentage of gas used for heating was used during period of warm weather over the last 12 months?
The following charts highlights how much gas has been used to heat schools during periods of warm weather. See the table below for more detail including how warm weather is defined.
We do not have enough data at the moment to display this chart
How did we calculate these figures?

The above chart and the following table both use the latest 12 months of data for each school.

The analysis refers to the gas used for heating rather than hot water or kitchen use. This is based on the heating model we have calculated for each school, which can be used to predict when the heating is on or off during the course of each day.

Warm weather is defined as any day where the average temperature is above 13.0C. Local weather data is used to estimate daily average temperatures for each school over the last 12 months.

How have we analysed your data?

School characteristics

Our analysis takes into account a range of characteristics for each school, including its floor area, location, pupil numbers and type.

Cost calculations

Consumption costs are calculated based on the unit prices of energy and do not take into account standing charges or other fees.

Tariffs may be based on MAT or Local Authority averages, or an Energy Sparks default, if your school has not provided their actual tariffs.

Consumption costs are estimated based on historic tariff information.

Future savings are estimates based on your school's latest tariff information.

Potential cost savings quoted in school comparisons, e.g. for comparable "well managed" and "exemplar" schools are also based on your school's current tariffs.

School comparisons

Comparisons are based on benchmarking a school against a comparable school based on the characteristics outlined above.

"Exemplar" schools represent the top 17.5% of Energy Sparks schools

"Well managed" schools represent the top 30% of Energy Sparks schools

Potential savings are based on a school reducing its usage to match those of an Exemplar school with similar characteristics.
