Label lights and appliances to show which should be left on or turned off

Balby Central Primary Academy, Tuesday, 14 October 2025
30 points 12 pupils Change-maker KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

After a week of monitoring, our Champions of Change moved around school and added 'Turn me off' signs to those appliances that have been left on on more than one occasion. This generally included -
- whiteboard screens
- laptops
- lights
- light boards
We review this each week and move the signs according to need. All lights go off when anyone is not in the room but sometimes teachers could turn lights off more often.

Champions of Change have had a meeting with the Site Manager to look at what our energy usage is on a weekend - the discussion was based around turning things like water coolers and printers off over the weekend.

Activity description

Pupils will identify all IT equipment, appliances and lighting throughout the school and indicate which can be turned off using a traffic light coding system.
