Activity 1 : 50 minute workshop with Eco-team from all year groups. Included a discussion of the Energy Sparks website, interactive use of solar cells and wiring to different devices, plus a discussion and use of the energy audit equipment brought - what their function was, how it's used, and what it tells you about how energy is used in school.
Activity 2 : 45 minute assembly with school. Subjects covered included:
- Global warming, it's impacts, causes and solutions.
- How the world is powered
- How the UK is powered.
- How the school is powered.
- Discussion of the new solar panels installed in November.
- How the school is performing in terms of energy use, using Energy Sparks electricity graphs to explain.
- Energy Sparks recommendations for energy saving action.
- How students can engage with Energy Sparks activities to reduce energy use.
- A focus on behaviour change and how students can make a difference in school and at home.
Activity 3: Met Bobbie Overton for 50mins where we drilled in further to some of the Energy Sparks data, graphs and actions, using the, previously sent, 1-to-1 analysis as a basis. We identified key areas to investigate:
- Reducing electricity baseload.
- Look at when the electricity is across the day and year and start investigating how to reduce out of school hours use.
- Looking at the early use of gas in the day, probably heating set wrong, and also lowering the Set Temperature.
- Looking at the Admin features: times, floorspace, school, community times and tariffs.
