Conducting a Transport Survey 🚶♀️🚲🚗
What did we do?
We carried out a transport survey to find out how children and staff travel to school. Each class took part by asking everyone how they got to school that day—did they walk, ride a bike or scooter, take the bus, or come by car?
We recorded the results and added them up to see which modes of transport were most and least popular. Some classes made tally charts or bar graphs to show their findings. It helped us think about the ways our travel choices affect the environment.
What did we learn?
We discovered that lots of children already walk, scoot or cycle—but some still travel by car, even if they live quite close to school. We talked about why this might be, and how we could encourage more people to try walking or parking further away and walking the last bit.
We also learned that every journey counts. Even small changes, like walking once or twice a week, can help cut pollution and keep us healthy.
What could we do next?
Next, we could:
- Create a display to show our transport survey results
- Run a Walk to School Week or Park and Stride event
- Appoint Active Travel Champions in each class
- Repeat the survey in a few months to see if anything has changed!
We’re excited to keep making greener choices—and helping others to do the same!
