Participate in an Introduction to Energy Sparks workshop

Jarrow Cross CofE Primary School, Tuesday, 02 December 2025
30 points 290 pupils Analyst KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

Activity 1 : Assembly, including Q&A with students. Subjects covered included:
  • Global warming, it's impacts, causes and solutions.
  • How the World is powered.
  • How the UK is powered.
  • How the school is powered.
  • How the school is performing in terms of energy use, using Energy Sparks electricity and gas graphs to explain.
  • Energy Sparks recommendations for energy saving action.
  • How students can engage with Energy Sparks activities to reduce energy use.
  • A focus on behaviour change and how students can make a difference in school and at home.

Activity 2: Met the Eco-team: included a discussion of Eco-Schools and Energy Sparks website and what part they could play in using it. Much of the discussion was of the energy audit equipment brought - what their function was, how it's used, and what it tells you about how energy is used in school.

Activity 3: Met the Office Manager and Teacher Lead: a tour of Energy Sparks from the beginning to orientate staff. A focus on  some of the key graphs that explain issues around energy consumption, electricity baseload, plus the control of heating and hot water.

Activity description

An Introduction to Energy Sparks workshop is a great way for your pupils to get started on your carbon reduction journey.   They'll learn how to navigate around the Energy Sparks, analyse graphs, discover the many ways they can tackle their school and community's environmental impact, and be inspired by the actions of other pupils like them.
