Pupils and staff worked together to set a whole-school energy reduction target. This was introduced through an assembly followed by class discussions, where pupils explored how energy is used across the school and identified areas where waste could be reduced.
We discussed practical actions such as turning off lights and interactive boards when not needed, shutting down devices at the end of the day, and ensuring doors and windows are closed to keep heat in. Pupils contributed ideas and helped decide on a realistic and achievable target for reducing energy use across the school.
The agreed target was then shared with all classes and displayed around school to remind everyone of their role in helping to achieve it.
Pupils learned how everyday actions contribute to overall energy use and the impact this has on the environment and school costs. They developed a stronger sense of responsibility and teamwork, understanding that collective action is needed to make a difference.
Staff and pupils also became more aware of energy waste and more proactive in reducing it during the school day.
