Oasis Academy - Enfield, Monday, 09 February 2026
30 points 15 pupils Explorer KS2

Debate club
In groups, they discuss:

  • Why did you choose this energy source?
  • What are the strengths?
  • What are the drawbacks?

  • What are renewables?

    • Energy from naturally replenishing sources: sun, wind, water, geothermal, biomass.
    • Produce little to no greenhouse gases.
    • Increasingly cheaper but depend on weather and large infrastructure.
  • Why do people support renewables?

    • Reduce climate change
    • Cleaner air
    • Long‑term cost savings
    • Energy independence
  • Why are some people cautious?

    • Wind and solar depend on weather
    • Expensive to build infrastructure
    • Need energy storage (batteries)
    • Takes space (wind farms, solar farm)
