Conduct a transport survey

Sir Jonathan North Girls' College, Thursday, 18 December 2025
15 points 450 pupils Detective KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

Alongside the charity Sustrans we carried out a survey with the tutor groups. Students were asked how they currently travel to school and how they would like to travel to school.  transport survey results.pdf
The results are attached.
We learnt that more people could cycle to school. We have a locked bike shed so that is good. The problem is that the roads are very busy so not everyone feels safe cycling to school. We are going to work with the charity to see how to improve this.

Activity description

You'll find our school transport survey link on your dashboard in the blue alerts.

You can find out how to use this by  watching our 'how to' video

By completing the survey you will find out how much CO2 emissions was created by your commute to school.  You can use this information to take action on cutting your commute.

It's up to you how to conduct the survey.  Some schools ask pupils to complete the survey as they enter the school grounds.  Others run the survey during form tutor time or registration.

Currently we can only record the day's transport emissions in one school group.  This means that if you want to compare different classes, for competitive or other purposes, you'll need to add up the individual emissions separately - daily maths challenge!
