With guidance from the In the Know team, pupils learned which materials are recyclable and reusable. They then carefully sorted and weighed the waste to understand exactly what our school is throwing away.
Following the audit, the committee helped deliver a special assembly to Key Stage 2. They explained where our waste goes and shared creative ideas for how we can all work together to reduce it.
Activity description
Everyone in your school needs to do their bit (or bite!) to tackle food waste. Hold an assembly to share the key facts about food waste and the main messages of what this means for your school.
Think carefully about who you want to hear your message. You might want to invite school governors, parents or dinner staff in or invite them to participate in your assembly.
