Create a classroom switch off list

William Levick Primary School, Tuesday, 16 December 2025
10 points 14 pupils Change-maker KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

Met with Eco team today and recorded what needs switching off and who was responsible.

Activity description

Hopefully you already have a whole school switch off list for the end of term. But what about individual classrooms and areas of the school? And what about at break, lunch and the end of the day? Who takes responsibility for making sure things are switched off when the classroom is empty?

Many classrooms will have lights, screens, computers and other pieces of equipment that should be switched off after school and even during breaks. The electricity used by a single touch screen board in a classroom can cost £80 a year or more if left on standby when not in use. What else is lurking in your classroom?

Work with your teacher to make a list of classroom equipment and decide which might need to stay switched on and which can be switched off. Consider labelling lights and appliances so you easily know which should be switched off. Decide who is responsible for this task each day.
