What's on the adult dashboard?
The Adult dashboard is the default page that most school users, or visitors browsing the site, will see when they sign in or navigate to a school from the View Schools page.
Pupil users will be taken to the pupil dashboard instead.
The dashboard provides a clear summary of key information about your school's energy use, and is tailored for adult users of Energy Sparks. It features:
A summary of your recent energy use
Links to detailed analysis (Explore energy data button) and advice about Energy saving opportunities for your school.
System-generated reminders about important actions, such as setting energy-saving goals or logging completed activities.
Information about where your school currently sits on our scoreboard, along with a Choose activity button that takes you to lists of recommended actions and activities.
The Pupil dashboard is the default page that pupil users will see when they sign in or navigate to a school from the View Schools page.
A link to Pupil dashboard can also be found on the blue navigation bar that is visible at the top of all of your school’s pages.
The Pupil dashboard is designed to engage students (from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3) with their school’s energy use.
The first section helps pupils understand energy consumption by putting it into relatable, real-world context. For example, it might show how much electricity the school used in a week compared to how many smartphones could be charged with that amount of energy.
The rest of the Pupil Dashboard features a similar set of alerts, reminders, recommendations and scoreboard update as the Adult Dashboard. However the energy alerts use different text, tailored for a younger audience.
Where is our detailed analysis?
The detailed energy analysis for your school can be accessed via:
the school's Adult dashboard, choose "Explore energy data"
the My School menu, when logged in as a school user
Energy Sparks’ analysis pages are designed for older pupils and adult users of Energy Sparks. Much of the analysis should be accessible to KS3 to KS5 pupils. Some of the more advanced analysis options such as Boiler control are most relevant to Building or Site Managers.
What are alerts?
Alerts help you stay informed, take action quickly, and track your progress over time.
They are intended to:
Act as early warnings for issues you should be aware of - e.g. if your heating has been left on during the holidays.
Celebrate successes when your school is performing well, either compared to other schools or against your own past performance.
Highlight recommendations to help you save energy over the long term.
Our alerts have helped Energy Sparks schools save thousands of pounds by quickly identifying sudden increases in energy use, often within days. Without these alerts, such issues might have gone unnoticed for months, leading to significantly higher energy bills.
Energy Sparks analyses your energy data every day to automatically identify:
Unusual or sudden increases in your school’s energy use.
Long-term issues in energy consumption, e.g. high energy use during weekends or holidays.
Short- or long-term reductions in your energy use, due to energy efficiency measures that you have introduced around the school.
Any changes we identify are automatically shown on your adult and pupil dashboards as alerts.

At the end of most alerts, you will find a link to Find out more. This will take you to an advice page that will allow you to explore possible causes and get tips for reducing usage.
We highly recommend that every school has at least one staff member receiving these alerts to ensure any unexpected changes in energy use are addressed quickly, helping to minimise waste and reduce costs.
What are energy saving opportunities?
Energy Sparks analyses your energy data every day to automatically identify the areas where you can make the most savings by reducing your energy use. These Energy saving opportunities will help you to prioritise your energy saving activities and actions.
We present the savings in a table automatically sorted with the action that saves the most money at the top. You can also choose to sort the table by potential cost or CO2 savings by clicking on the table headings.
These opportunities can be accessed via:
the Adult dashboard using the Energy saving opportunities button
the Energy efficiency overview in your advice pages
Each suggestion has a link to an advice page which will include recommended pupil activities and energy saving actions that will help to achieve the estimated savings.
