What are programmes?

Our programmes consist of related pupil activities that all focus on a particular energy saving theme. They are ideal for eco-teams, providing a step-by-step structure that pupils can follow to achieve real impact.

Our programmes are also designed to be manageable within a short term (although they do not come with time limits and schools are welcome to progress at their own pace).

Schools that complete a whole programme will earn 30 bonus points on top of the points they score for each activity or action within that programme.

Important note: schools with a funded Energy Sparks place are expected to complete at least one programme over the year (read more about our engagement expectations for funded schools).

How to find relevant programmes

Our full list of programmes is publicly available. Each programme focuses on a specific energy-saving theme and develops a range of related skills.

We recommend starting with the Get Energised programme, where you can work through setting up an eco-team, begin analysing your energy data, and take initial steps to cut energy waste.

During the winter months, we also offer several programmes aimed at reducing heating waste.

When you record pupil activities we highlight if you've already completed several activities that are part of one of our programmes, and suggest you enrol to complete the rest.

If you are signed in as a school user then you will be able to see which of our programmes your school has already enrolled in.

Enrolling in a programme

On your chosen programme page you can enrol your school in a programme by pressing the Start button at the top of the list of activities.

If you are not signed in then you will see a prompt to login, after which you can press the Start button to enrol.

Programmes can be restarted at any time - for example at the beginning of a new school year.

How to track progress

If you have started one or more programmes you can track progress in several ways:

  • when signed in, viewing a specific programme page will show which activities have been completed and which are still to be done
  • the school's pupil and adult dashboards each include a progress indicator and a prompt to complete the next activity
  • the school's recommended activities also includes a progress update

Completing programmes

Once you have enrolled in the programme, work your way through the activities and actions one by one.

If your school is signed up with Energy Sparks, make sure you record each activity when you have completed it so that you can win points for our scoreboard.

It is especially important to record your activities and actions if you have a funded place, as this allows you to demonstrate that you are meeting our engagement expectations (learn more).

Learn how to record activities and actions.

Once all of the activities within a programme have been completed and recorded by your school, the programme will show as being completed and the school will receive 30 bonus points for our scoreboard competition.
