Adding basic information about the school

Some basic information about your school will have been provided during the account setup process.

This can be updated if any information is missing or has changed. As some of this information (e..g. floor area and pupil sizes) impacts how we analyse your data, or how we recommend pupil activities, it is important to keep it up to date.

You can update the following information:

  • Basic details, e.g. school name, address, postcode, website, funding status
  • Unique Reference Number
    • For English and Welsh schools this should be your 6 digit URN, found on the Get Information About Schools website
    • For Scottish schools this should be your 7 digit SEED code, found on the Education Scotland website
  • Stage of education and key stages taught at the school
    • For Scottish schools, KS1 covers P2 and P3, KS2 covers P4 to P7, KS3 covers S1 to S3, KS4 covers S4 and S5, KS5 is S6
  • Number of pupils and Percentage of pupil eligible for free school meals
  • Floor area in square metres
  • Preferred units for chart data (kg CO2, kWh, £ or the most sensible default unit for each chart)

The Edit school details page is accessible from the Manage school menu when signed in as a school or group admin user.

Visit the Edit school details page for your school.

Adding floor area and pupil numbers

Floor area and pupil numbers are used to compare your school’s energy performance against other schools of a similar size.

School admin users can update these details.

The Edit school details page is accessible from the Manage school menu when signed in as a school or group admin user.

Visit the Edit school details page for your school.

  • Under Basic details you can change the Number of pupils. Pupil numbers should always be reviewed if there are any significant changes to the school’s structure or set up. It is good practice to review pupil numbers annually.
  • Under School features you can amend the floor area in square metres. Please note, floor area should reflect internal building space only and must exclude external areas such as playgrounds, playing fields, and car parks. This information should be reviewed and updated whenever site works, property acquisitions, or disposals lead to changes in the size or number of buildings in use by your school.

When complete click Update school.

Adding information about your school estate

Energy Sparks uses a variety of data about your school to tailor our analysis and advice. By telling us a bit more about your school estate we can improve the support we offer you.

This might involve presenting more detailed information about the energy generated by your solar panels or explaining higher energy consumption by noting that your school has a frequently used heated swimming pool

School admin users can update these details.

The Edit school details page is accessible from the Manage school menu when signed in as a school or group admin user.

Visit the Your school estate page for your school.

You can now choose to inform us of whether your school has:

  • Solar panels
  • Night storage heaters
  • A swimming pool
  • Or any alternative heating sources.

When complete click Save.

If you inform us that you have solar panels, we will be in touch to find out more about the amount of electricity generated by your panels and any electricity exported to the grid. Read more about how we use data from solar panels.
