Overview

Put thermometers in each classroom and nominate class energy monitors to check the temperature remains just right throughout the school day!
The best temperatures for schools are:
  • Normal classrooms: 18°C
  • Corridors: 15°C
  • Areas with high levels of activity (e.g. sports halls): 15°C
  • Areas with low levels of activity: 21°C
  • Special needs schools or areas with very young children: 21°C

Classroom temperatures can be recorded on Energy Sparks via your school's pupil dashboard. If classroom temperatures are too high, adjust thermostats or heating controls.
Getting pupils involved in monitoring classroom temperatures can be a good way to support a campaign to adjust boiler start times. Monitoring classroom temperatures can reassure school staff that the school will not be too cold with later heating start times.
