In our staff briefing due on Fri 8th Nov we've told staff... Layer Up, Power Down – If the temperature outside isn’t too cold then the heating will be switched off at lunch time and remain off all weekend. It’s a reminder to heat the person, not the planet and we are monitoring our usage to make sure we don’t waste energy by heating school at a weekend.

Our Site Manager has been asked to make sure the heating is switched off everyday.

Activity description

Take charge of the heating at your school by running a Layer Up Power Down Day.

Many schools spend a large proportion of their heating energy warming the school to an excessive temperature or when its empty.

We're hoping that by encouraging schools turn their heating off or down on one day - ideally a Friday or Monday plus the closest weekend - we can raise awareness of how much energy schools are wasting by keeping their heating too high or when schools are closed - especially at the weekends and over holidays.
