Plan and run a campaign to switch off lights and use natural light on sunny days

Oasis Academy - Immingham, Wednesday, 01 May 2024
30 Change-maker KS1, KS2, KS3

What you did

The students in the Ecoclub have been preparing and educating students and teachers on the beefits of natural daylight instead of using artificial light in the classrooms. The students have prepared an assembly discussing the positives of using natural lights. Staff have also been made aware that blinds should be up to increase the amount of natural daylight in the rooms and classroom monitors should be ensuring all electrical items such as display boards and lights and heaters are switched off by the end of every lesson or when the classroom is not in use.
The Ecoclub would like to go further with the next campaign and encourage the use of an outdoor classroom where no electric or gas are used during the lesson.

Activity description

Did you know? Making good use of daylight in a classroom can reduce lighting costs by 19%.

In this activity pupils discover how classroom set up can increase natural light levels and explore the optimal levels of light in their classrooms.
