Learn about appliances that use energy at home and school
Upwell Academy, Monday, 15 January 2024 10ExplorerKS1, KS2
What you did
During our whole school assembly, we looked at things at home that use energy. We knew that electronics would, but were more surprised at things that used water such as the sink. We now know that gas or electricity is used to heat the water, and similarly for heating. We were also able to highlight ways we can already improve in reducing our energy consumption, for example, we were all in the hall, yet many classroom lights were left on. Pupils were set a home challenge to save energy with some tasks such as: Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth. Switch the lights off when no-one is in the room. Turn off computer consoles and TVs. Unplug chargers when they are not in use. Put extra layers on instead of turning on the heating. Play with non-electrical toys. Take a short journey by foot instead of by car.
