After talking to the school operations manager, a policy was written on heating and cooling use. Included in this policy a note about keeping windows and doors closed while heating/cooling is on.
Sustainable Heating and Cooling policy 2024
Created by Eco-School committee
Introduction – Abby Priestley AOM
As part of our Eco-Committee’s dedication and commitment to reducing our energy costs and nurturing our environment they have created the below policy that will be shared with staff, pupils and visitors.
What we will do:
The school ( AOM / Premises ) is responsible for arranging a suitable utilities supplier. Although cost is important when sourcing a new supplier, it is important that the school also considers renewable energy sources.
The School will heat class rooms in winter months to ensure the comfort of pupils, staff and visitors. Air conditioning units in Little learners, ash class and chestnut can be used to lower the temperature of the room in summer months.
To conserve energy the school will remind school users that all doors and windows must be closed when heating/cooling is on.
As an eco-committee we will do spot checks throughout the term to make sire this is happening. As a school we will remind all users of this policy through the AOM termly sustainability newsletters and staff emails.
Heating and cooling should be used on a timer during school hours only.
The caretaker/premises will ensure this is correct and accurate to school timings and the heating/cooling systems are functioning correctly.
Heating and cooling will be set to appropriate temperatures as agreed by the Principal to prevent wasting unnecessary energy.
External doors and window will be kept closed when heating and cooling will be on.
We will regularly check energy sparks to compare our usage.
We will hold ‘layer up , power down’ days to remind school users about energy consumption.
