The scoreboard was a fun element that added some friendly competition between local schools. The children really enjoyed seeing how their actions not only reduced our school’s energy consumption but also earned us points as we soared up the scoreboard. Energy Sparks has opened all our eyes to how much energy we all use and the platform has allowed us to explore a really important conversation by having some fun along the way!Rob Hyneman - Head of Academy
Our pupils...enjoyed the experience and felt they had made an impact to the school…they are enthusiastic to keep making positive changes to the school community and at home.Teacher -
Not only has Energy Sparks helped us reduce our day to day running costs, but this particular alert undoubtedly quickly saved us a significant amount from this one-off event. I would encourage all school users to keep an eye on the alerts Energy Sparks is sending out each week, not just to pick up on events such as the above, but also to sustain the momentum of monitoring energy usage at all times.Helen Lorraine - Business Manager
The educational side of Energy Sparks is an additional bonus, the pupils are involved in using the data for a range of topics. It's nice to have a real dataset that pupils can use in real time.Steven Williams - School Network Manager
Working with Energy Sparks has been brilliant. It is always lovely to find ways of saving money but to do so whilst not just maintaining but improving standards is a double bonus. Plus, we have been able to do meaningful work with the children on environmental issues alongside making changes which have a positive impact on the environment.Amanda Seager - Headteacher
Engaging with Energy Sparks has been a really worthwhile experience. Not only has the school saved money, the children have become more aware of the ways that they can help to reduce energy use. The website is a great resource for adults and children with activities and data which allow children to apply their mathematical and scientific skills and knowledge.Jennie Nixon - Head of School
Energy Sparks has given leaders the tools to enthuse and engage the pupils, staff and their families. The activities, the ideas, the learning and the competition all combine and contribute to a valuable programme which the pupils can identify with at school and home.Jane Gadsby - Headteacher
It was surprising to see how much gas was being wasted when the school was not even in use. I found the pie charts very telling, particularly when starting this journey. I had no idea the heating was being left on at weekends.School Site Manager -

Lots of lovely activities…really accessible…children can see the progress straight away. Children are really taking on board the message that this is their world and they need to make it the best they can for them.Teacher -
To be honest, what we’ve done is nothing extreme or that special. The main driver and trigger was actually the Energy Sparks programme because it inspired me and triggered us to be more focused on what we were doing. The main thing for me was: don’t assume the heating settings are right without checking; take time to have a look, as it is worth it for everyone.David Reed - Facilities Manager
This great achievement is all down to the hard work of our brilliant group of eco-warriors, a group of students who help make Maryland as sustainable as possible. Their dedication and passion for reducing our energy usage has been transformative, and they are already coming up with new ideas on how to reduce our energy and gas usage even more next year!Henry Watson - Science & Sustainability Lead
