If you're taking part in our Cut out the High Carbon Commute programme this term, you'll need to get everyone involved.

Parents and carers have a huge part to play in how their children get to school so it's important to include them in your communications. Before you tackle this activity you will want to run a transport survey to look at how people get to school and the scale of the carbon emissions from your school commute.

Think about whether you are doing any other environmental schemes which tie in with this programme such as Eco Schools or Modeshift Stars. If you have run an assembly about the high carbon commute, is there any information from that that you would like to include?

Explain to parents the importance of reducing car travel as much as possible. Show them the data and the part they play.  Give some suggestions about how they can help.  And don't forget to be polite!

We've drafted a template letter here that you can use to tell your families.  Please copy it and adapt it for your own school.
