Pupils meet with kitchen staff to discuss their role in saving energy

What you did

We went into the kitchen and talked to the chefs and kitchen staff about  what time they did certain things in the kitchen that used electricity and gas.  We put energy monitors on the fridge and freezers for a week.  The tall fridge and freezer use about £784 a year of energy to run., so we decided to do something about it. We've come to the conclusion to write to our head teacher and recommend to him that we buy a new  fridge and freezer that is more energy efficient. We think this might save £700 a year for our school.

Activity description

School kitchens are a major energy consumption area.

Pupils can interview the kitchen staff to find out how appliances are used in the kitchen and where energy might be saved.
