Raised awareness among the staff in general.
During the 2-week Christmas break last year, the school spent nearly £5000 on electricity. We spent another £9000 on gas. For most of this period, there were only 3 people on site.
Much of this energy is wasted and inevitably has an impact on your departmental budgets.
Mark A and his team will be remotely switching off all computers and unnecessary devices before they leave on Friday. You can also help by 'shutting down' your machine but leaving it plugged in/switched on.
James R and his team will be changing the heating/hot water settings so that they protect the system and keep things healthy.
You can also do your bit.

- Data projectors
- Air conditioning
- Printers (not photocopiers)
Please ensure these are turned off before you leave on Friday.
- Water heaters
- Hot drinks machines
- Chromebook Charging Trolleys
- Fan Heaters
- Portable Heaters
- Personal chargers
- Fridges
- Portable devices
Unplugging these devices or turning them off at the wall will usually have a much bigger effect than simply keeping them on standby.
Let's all make an extra special effort this Christmas - I'll let you know the impact in 2025.
