Label lights and appliances to show which should be left on or turned off

St John's Primary School, Radstock, Wednesday, 26 April 2023
5 Change-maker KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

What you did

Some members of the school council have spent their free time labelling the lights and electrical appliances in school. They have used dot stickers with a traffic light system:

- Green = turn off if not in use.
- Amber = ask an adult if it can be turned off.
- Red = do not touch

Next week, the children will deliver a short presentation informing their classmates about this system and why it is important. They will also support their teacher in nominating an 'electricity monitor' to ensure that appliances are turned off when not in use.

Activity description

Pupils will identify all IT equipment, appliances and lighting throughout the school and indicate which can be turned off using a traffic light coding system.
