Pupils meet with the office staff to discuss their role in saving energy

St John's Primary School, Radstock, Thursday, 25 May 2023
10 Communicator KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5

What you did

Today, two children have interviewed our office staff to find out about how seriously they take energy-efficiency whilst at work.

 This is what they discovered:
  • Our office staff are really diligent in turning off their computers and lights at the end of the day before going home and the last person to leave will always have a look around to check that nothing has been left on.
  • When a new appliance is needed in the office, the staff will think really carefully about which model will use the least energy for the job at hand.
  • They only purchase and use electrical appliances that are really necessary.
  • As an area for development, we need to investigate how we can set up screensavers which start automatically after 5 minutes to save energy when we are not working at our computers.

Activity description

Your school office team do a fantastic job of keeping the school running smoothly.  Did you know that they also have a big part to play in increasing the energy efficiency of your school?  Why not have a chat with them about what they could be doing to help cut energy waste.

Download our activity guide here.

We've created a quiz you can give them.  Use this to test them or use the information in the quiz to make your own presentation or questionnaire.
