Tomorrow is Layer Up & Power Down day, which means we will be turning off the heating in the building. Please monitor the temperature in your classrooms, if you are able, and the effect it has on children and staff. If it is successful, we may consider repeating this every Friday, unless of course, it is excessively cold outside.
Terri, you might want to bring in an Arctic-grade coat and thermal underwear! 😉
Thanks for your help with this.
Activity description
Take charge of the heating at your school by running a Layer Up Power Down Day.
Many schools spend a large proportion of their heating energy warming the school to an excessive temperature or when its empty.
We're hoping that by encouraging schools turn their heating off or down on one day - ideally a Friday or Monday plus the closest weekend - we can raise awareness of how much energy schools are wasting by keeping their heating too high or when schools are closed - especially at the weekends and over holidays.
Download our poster (or create your own), tell your whole school community, and get ready to layer up.
Don't forget to look at your heating data the following week to spot how much difference your action has made.
